Volunteers Week – Hapus Wales case study
As we continue to celebrate volunteers week and the amazing work of volunteers, charities and voluntary organisations, we are pleased to now be able to spotlight a charity that has recently signed up to Tempo Time Credits and provides community inclusion opportunities for people with additional needs.
Situated in Llandaff North, Cardiff, Hapus Wales runs a Charity Shop and offers volunteer opportunities and work experience specifically to people with additional learning and mental health needs. The shop gives them the chance to gain valuable work experience that they may not be able to otherwise access and to increase their community interaction.
Hapus Wales has been given such a warm welcome by the local community since it opened, that the staff at the shop decided to give a little something back by taking over a small patch of waste ground opposite the shop. The aim is to make it into a pleasant mini garden for shoppers or walkers to take a break, and at the same time give the volunteers a chance to become involved in a different activity – gardening. Much weeding and preparation has been carried out already by the volunteers and they absolutely love planting seeds and donated plants in the garden and helping to create a greener space in the community.
Saying thank you to volunteers and recognising the contribution they have made, is our main aim and objective at Tempo Time Credits, so we were pleased to speak with Becky at Hapus Wales about why they joined Tempo Time Credits.
Can you tell us how you discovered Tempo Time Credits?
“We discovered Tempo Time Credits online and thought it sounded like a really great way of saying thank you to our volunteers and beneficiaries.
All the team were pleased to be joining Tempo Time Credits.”
How are people earning Tempo Time Credits in the community?
“Our beneficiaries and volunteers are earning Tempo Time Credits based on how many hours they volunteer with us. This involves activities such as gardening in the community to create greener spaces for people to enjoy and working in our store and engaging with customers.”
How are people using their Tempo Time Credits?
Our beneficiaries haven’t used any Tempo Time Credits yet but are looking forward to using them. I expect most of them will use them around the Cardiff area for local leisure facilities and attractions.
What difference have Tempo Time Credits made for your service users?
I think it has enabled the charity to let our volunteers know they are extra valued and it might help to motivate them in future to keep volunteering and to attract new volunteers.
How has Tempo been of help to you and what advice would you give to an organisation considering signing up?
Tempo has been very responsive with emails regarding initial enquiries and ordering membership cards and supporting us through the onboarding journey and beyond. They really have been great helping with everything and would recommend anyone thinking of signing up to do so.
