Encouraging and rewarding volunteering in schools across Wales

You may have heard about our Tempo Time Credits Cymru programme where we proudly work to tackle the impacts of poverty on communities and mobilise local social action across Wales through the power of volunteering. A unique aspect of the programme and one we’re very excited about is that we are able to work with schools across Wales to encourage pupils to get involved in volunteering and engage with their local community.

As we know, it’s very important to help young people develop useful skills and confidence for later life, with Tempo Time Credits you can encourage more pupils and parents to take part in volunteer activities helping them learn new skills, grow in confidence and learn about the importance of making a difference in their community. We are incredibly proud of the opportunities we offer young people across Wales through working with our partners and networks, giving them a sense of purpose and direction while being rewarded for the contribution they make. We firmly believe that together we can make amazing things happen for schools, pupils and families such as:

  • Inspire parents and/or pupils to volunteer and engage with school life. Building closer relationships between pupils, parents, and school staff
  • Enable family outings to exciting destinations and encourage spending more time together
  • Place volunteering and community citizenship at the heart of school life and the local community, enabling pupils to build networks and relationships in the local community
  • Allow pupils to improve future prospects by engaging in new activities in the local community and learning new skills
  • Support the school to engage the skills of the wider community.

Having the parent volunteers frees up our Teaching Assistants so that they can do more tasks with the pupils which have a bigger impact on their learning – Family Engagement Officer

We really do have something for everyone to enjoy with their Tempo Time Credits. As our recognition network continues to reopen and grow as restrictions ease, volunteers with schools can exchange Tempo Time Credits for access to hundreds of activities across Wales and England, including access to local and national attractions and days out, sporting events, live music, fitness classes and vouchers for shopping and entertainment such as groceries or streaming services.

Tempo Time Credits have enabled our families to take part in a variety of enjoyable experiences, spending quality time together and enriching their family life. –   Deputy Headteacher, Cardiff
