Our team are passionate about volunteering – hear Praise’s story
Our Tempo team are so passionate about volunteering and the difference it can make to communities that many of us volunteer ourselves in our spare time. For #VolunteersWeek we asked Praise one of our Contract Executives who works with communities in London and Cambridgeshire to share her experiences.
Tell us about your volunteering journey
I volunteer as the social impact manager for Olori, who partner with women-owned businesses and local artisans in Africa. They make handbags and accessories that are the ultimate symbols of empowerment; every product sold pays tuition for girls in under-served African communities.
Olori means Queen. And it represents what the brand believes about every woman’s worth. They believe that women are inherently powerful, that every woman wears an invisible crown and is worthy of a full life, free of deprivation and discrimination.
Olori Partners with CAMFED, a pan-African movement revolutionizing how girls’ education is delivered. It also partners with Bridge International Academies which collaborates with governments, communities, teachers, and parents to deliver evidence-based quality education for primary and pre-primary school children, currently serving more than 100,000 children across Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Liberia, and India.
In my role as Social Impact manager, I am in charge of monitoring, evaluating and measuring Olori’s programme impact, including monitoring budgets, outcomes, and timelines. I am also responsible for managing the partnerships that enable the goal of paying the tuition for the girls in under-served African communities.
Are there any specific details you would like to mention about your volunteering experience?
It’s all been mentioned above, but I love that this work has supported 240,497 students from primary and secondary school at 7,018 government schools.
How do you think your volunteering work has impacted the community?
I think it has made me aware of the gaps that exist in educational access for the girl child across developing communities and the kind of factors that contribute to this. I believe that my work is impactful in bridging that gap one girl at a time. I am privileged to be able to donate my time and resources to this important work.
If Praise has inspired you to start volunteering, you can find your perfect opportunity to contribute here.
