Tempo’s role in helping arts venues appeal to a wider audience
A visit to the theatre for some is saved for a festive family treat to a Christmas pantomime. But wouldn’t it be great to enjoy the arts with opportunities like this all year round?
We are delighted to be working alongside a number of arts venues in our Recognition Partner Network that offer tickets for our volunteers to ‘purchase’ using their Tempo Time Credits. This can be anything from cinema passes or tickets to the theatre, to exhibitions, bespoke gallery tours or the opportunity to enjoy a range of music styles in fabulous concert halls.
Credits are earned by our volunteers through their work with local charities and organisations and enable our members to enjoy new experiences or just more of what they love.
Some of our recent offers:
- Regular productions at Chorley Theatre, Minack Theatre, Penzance & Park Theatre, London
- RHS Botanical Art & photography show exhibition tour and workshop at the Saatchi Gallery, London
- Handel’s Messiah, Christmas Carols & St David’s Day Concert with BBC National Orchestra of Wales in Cardiff
- Bespoke Tour of Alexandra Palace’s magnificent Theatre and Concert Hall in London
Building new audiences
A recent survey highlighted in the BBC Radio 4 program, Front Row, explained that in general, theatres and art venues fill 66% of their tickets across all their performances. Following on from the pandemic the survey explained that this could drop to as low as 43% over the next year. Naturally, this reduction in frequent visitors may prove disastrous for independent venues. So how do you increase your audience without slashing your prices across the board and running your performances at a loss?
Partnering with Tempo
Becoming a Tempo Recognition Partner allows arts venues the opportunity to offer a number of tickets to a specific performance marketed to our volunteers. Venues can choose which events to offer with no fee, subscription or obligation to offer tickets to popular performances that will sell out.
This allows venues to appeal to new audiences or encourage more regular visits from those who already frequent their venue. Both without impacting too much on their bottom line.
We’ve always believed that our Time Credits make good business sense and we now have data to prove it. In our most recent survey (342 responses):
- 77% of volunteers spend at least £5 during a visit
- 74% ‘sometimes’ or ‘always’ bring a paying friend with them
- 54% return as a paying customer
We’ve been working with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales for nearly six months and they see our partnership as a great opportunity to give back to the local community too.
Everyone at the BBC National Orchestra of Wales is delighted to be working with Tempo and it’s been wonderful meeting their incredible volunteers at our concerts and hearing about the work that they do to make Wales a better place for us all. Volunteers make a massive and positive contribution to communities across Wales, and by offering concert tickets for our performances, we hope that Tempo volunteers know how valued and appreciated they are.
