The Royal Mint Experience

The Royal Mint Experience is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Wales. Located in Llantrisant and housing coins, medals artwork and minting equipment it is the only place in the world where you can watch the United Kingdom’s coins being made! We talked to Dan Johnson, Marketing and Events Manager at The Royal Mint Experience, about working in partnership with Tempo Time Credits to recognise volunteers.

How did you first become involved with Tempo?

Our relationship with Tempo was already up and running before I started. This part of the business was new, and we were keen to engage with a wider community, particularly groups who might not usually consider us as a destination. There were obviously some legitimate concerns at the outset around commercial risk, but these haven’t materialised. The support we’ve had from Ben and Tempo have been fantastic, the PR and community reach benefits have really offset any concerns which we had around risk. It’s been a really positive and successful relationship.

What has your experience of working with Tempo Time Credits been?

It has been excellent overall. We have managed to access our local community, helped by our involvement with Tempo Time Credits. We send out regular surveys and people tell us that The Royal Mint has been recommended to them by friends who first visited using Tempo Time Credits. There really have been significant community advocacy and PR benefits from our involvement. It’s also noticeable that we have a lot of “mixed tickets” where Tempo Time Credits visitors bring paying friends along with them. Prior to the new Tempo digital platform, we did have a few minor administration issues, but that was also due to our old ticketing system. We are really looking forward to the benefits that being fully digital can bring.

Has working with Tempo thrown up any surprises?

We are quite a complex business, so I was keen to understand our relationship with Tempo when I started. It was clear to me that we really were gaining some significant benefit from our inclusion in the Tempo marketing outputs, through your website, newsletters, and mail outs. This is an important part of the relationship for us. As a result of our partnership with Tempo, we are clearly talked about in the community. The partnership presents us with some clear marketing benefits.

What would you say to new, potential Recognition Partners, who are considering joining the Tempo network?

It is reasonable for any business to have initial concerns around new partnerships. I would say that with Tempo, you really shouldn’t worry. In our experience, it won’t erode your bottom line, the benefits and exposure significantly outweigh any perceived risk. I would encourage anyone to sign up and go for it, I really can’t see how it wouldn’t work! Visit the Royal Mints website here to learn more about the venue or if you’re interested in learning more about Tempo Time Credits visit our website here.
